Our Mission

Our vision is to help build a community that is both free of drug and alcohol abuse as well as the disease of addiction.
To advocate for the reduction of the stigma associated with alcoholism and other drug addiction; and to promote effective solutions to these and other related problems through the provision of quality prevention, assessment, referral, treatment, education and advocacy services in the manner reflective of the changing culture of our community.

Addiction Services Council History

On May 6, 1949, a group of Cincinnati citizens met at the University Club to address the issue of alcoholism in the community. One of the first items on their agenda was to start an outpatient program at Cincinnati General Hospital. The resulting attitudes and experience began to shape the future of education and advocacy for proper treatment and prevention of alcoholism and drug addiction in Greater Cincinnati.

Since 1949, the Addiction Services Council (ASC), formerly known as the Alcoholism Council of the Cincinnati Area, has focused on a wide range of programs that serve children, adolescents, families, women, older adults and persons with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders.

The “Council” has continued to expand its ability to provide information, referral, assessment and linkage for appropriate care to clients over the last 7 decades. In July 2003, the Recovery Health Access Center (RHAC), a 24/7 phone helpline 513.281.RHAC (7422) was established at ASC staffed by trained professionals to help navigate the path to lifelong recovery for thousands of individuals.
